Interesting reads. Railways during wartime

Postby kirkheath on Wed Jan 25, 2017 12:48 pm

Currently having a read through a really good book. Titled Firing days by Harold Gasson. And some of that account is during the war years.

I was wondering though, can people recommend good books that are based around the war years written in the eyes of footplate crew. Rather fascinated by the tales in the book I'm currently reading

Do you perhaps know if there are translations of it?

Translations?

The ones I refer to are English already.

And a follow up

I have seen one written by a Michael Williams Titled "Steaming to Victory: How Britain's Railways Won the War". Anyone read this before?

Try these -

Semi-fictional but a good account of railways around wartime Scarborough and the Yorkshire coast
